Remembering the 125th Anniversary of the First Mass at the Present Church

The parish was first located at 9th and Washington but moved west to Grand and Lindell one hundred and twenty-five years ago. You can read about our early history here.

To mark the anniversary, we have planned a year-long series of events running from October 11, 2009, until October 10, 2010. We hope you will be able to join us!

Anniversary Celebration Events

On Saturday, November 21, at the Saint Louis University Art Museum, there will be a Wine tasting event and display of historic artifacts used at College Church.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, tours begin at 7:00 PM. Wine tasting and light hors d'oeuvres. Cost $15 per person or $25 per couple. Please RSVP to Mary Ann Moore at 314-962-2342 or MaryAnn@moorecg.com.

The next event in the Anniversary Celebration Speaker Series will be on Sunday, November 22. Father Douglas Marcouiller, SJ, will speak about his personal experiences of the six El Salvador Jesuit University Martyrs, their housekeeper and her daughter, along with their legacy on the 20th anniversary of their martyrdom. Until his recent appointment as Provincial of Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Marcouiller was associate professor of economics at Saint Louis University and rector of Bellarmine House, a community of Jesuit scholastics and brothers in formation. This event will be in the Xavier Ballroom between the Sunday morning masses, 9:20 AM - 10:15.

The College Church Choir will present an Advent Concert on Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5, at 7:30 PM. On both nights, our Fair Trade Christmas Market follows the concert in the Xavier Ballroom. More information on the Concert and the Market can be found here.

Events will continue throughout the Anniversary year until the celebration concludes at the masses on Sunday, October 10, 2010. Watch this page for event announcements and details.
